The painted dial of this clock is signed "G. Davies, Dolgelly". Griffith Davies was a clock and watchmaker who lived in Dolgelly (Dollgelau), Wales from 1800 to 1884. This grandfather clock has a "pinched waste" and appears to be made of a dark oak. the interior surfaces of the wood show signs of being hand hewed. Like most clocks of the early 19th century, this "time and strike" clock strikes the hours on a large steel bell. The calendar is functional. The clock has very nice proportions, a beautiful dial (probably repainted given the age of the clock and the beautiful condition of the paint). It is an extremely handsome clock. The dimensions are 80 inches tall, 19 inches wide at the base, and 9 inches deep.
